Our Faithful God

Sometimes the going gets tough and it looks like the bad guys are winning. The world around us appears to be sinking into chaos as popular culture hacks away at the Judaeo Christian pillars and foundations of our society. As we approach complete moral collapse we wonder, as Christians, if we should be preparing for the return of our Lord. Could these be the end times? Is the time of the rapture approaching? It sure feels like it sometimes. Where else can this slippery slope of decline be taking us?

And where is God?

Earlier today as I was setting up tomorrow’s Daily Bible Verse for Search The Bible, the words in Deuteronomy 7:9 spoke to me and I felt encouraged to write this post. Here’s the verse:

Deuteronomy 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

It starts out with Moses telling us that we should know that our God is actually God. “He is God”, he says. Moses is stating the obvious here to remind Israel and the rest of us that our God isn’t just a small-g god dreamed up in someone’s pagan imagination, He is God!

Good to know.

Moses goes on to remind us that our God is the faithful God. Again, not some wish-granting, lucky-charm god of the superstitious. Our God is faithful. Our God keeps His promises and is faithful in His mercy to those of us that love Him and keep His commandments.

Keep His commandments? Yikes, that’s not going to work, but I’ll get back to that in a minute.

If you’re wondering where God is these days, you’re not alone and you’re not the first. In Psalm 10 the psalmist (widely assumed to be King David) wonders, “Why standest thou afar off, O LORD? why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble?” In Psalm 13 he asks, “How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?”.

There’s encouragement for us in King David’s laments. He’s going through some rough times on a fairly broad scale, just as Christ’s church is today. But when he asks, how long will you forget me? These are the words of a man who remembers a past relationship with God. He’s not asking, if there is a God where is He? in the philosophical sense. He’s asking the God he knows to exist how long he’s going to have to wait. Forever perhaps? He’s clearly a bit depressed in his situation, but there’s no doubt in his mind that the God who dealt directly with him in the past is quite capable of doing so in the future!

And indeed, God was faithful to David, just as Moses declared in Deuteronomy 7:9.

Psalm 10:16

So we’re not the first, and might not be the last to wonder where God is in the world. This is where our faith comes in. We need to stand on God’s promises knowing that He is faithful.

And as for those commandments? Despite our shortcomings, dear Christian, God looks upon you and me as righteous. When we accepted God’s gift of salvation through the work of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we became clothed in the righteousness of the Son of God. So God will indeed keep His promise of mercy and salvation because we love Him, and because we have, in His eyes, kept His commandments. By allowing Jesus to live in us through the Holy Spirit, we remain obedient in Christ.

So when the going gets tough, hold on to those words of Moses; He is God, the faithful God.

God Bless.

  1. So true, God has never forsaken us as his children, Israel went through the wilderness, and he was there, Nebuchadnezzar, send three men in the fire and in astonishment saw four and the form of the fourth was like the son of God, Daniel was sent in the lions den God was right there, but in all our troubles he is there with us’ Job said the Lord Gave and the Lord taketh away, when God Allowed Satan to destroy him, but he remained faithful. My Country has been devastated by tropical storm Erika and as I look at the destruction I wonder why us, as I went out to help and look for my Brethren saved children or God, and I saw most of them lost all that they had and have to be leaving in shelters. in Colihaut and Coulibistrie Dubique etc. with tears in my eyes, I remembered when the Earth quake almost totally destroyed my new house that is used as a place for believers all believers has right to only open my door and come in because that is what God gave to me for us all when I saw my own destruction of property my wife was in tears I went down on my knees and sang my favorite song that I always sing at funerals and at functions UNTIL THEN and said to them as I said to my self the things of earth will dim and loose their value if we recall they are boroughed for a wile, and things of Earth that cause the heart to tremble, remember here will only bring a smile. that song meant and still mean so much to me that I got a special love in my heart for all who passes my way and it strengthen me with a special preaching power I got up and took on two radio ministries one in English The Gospel Light Broadcast, And one in Koewole La Vwa DE Lavangille. and today I have no money some times I cant even pay the radio but God is in control the radio said just preach and pay when you can, and the amount of call I get from the Neighboring French countries of Guadeloupe Martinique and Marigalant and through out Dominica, there is no doubt that God is in it fully with me, help me to thank him and to continue the Preaching of the cross to the lost and at the same time I recall the word I preached at the Colihaut Gospel mission, and the 1st Olivet Baptist Church in Portsmouth back to back topic BE COMMITTED TO GOD, and to me exactly what I said to believers not to take the things of earth and make it our hope, and let us focus on the things of God, be committed to Gods work because all what we possess here is for a little while, and friends I just preached that in those two assembles and warned those believers that take so much time being busy in the earthly things and have very little time for the things of Our Lord, we come to church if we have nothing else to do, etc. and it was like a warning just after that wicked storm hit and every one of us lost our things. But none of us lost Gods things, because our things are temporal but Gods things are Eternal may god bless you all Amen. I am appealing to any one who is willing to spread the Gospel of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ to support the Radio Ministry for it is very effective. I am not looking for money for my self but to pay the radio stations I can be contacted at yoljj@outlook.com or tel.17678798/2754924/6131609. God Bless
